Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Longevity

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective variant gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Mattress Longevity

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Longevity

Construction Helix Mattress Longevity

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Longevity

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models feel right, you may always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Longevity

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Longevity

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
