Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress King Size

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress King Size

Construction Helix Mattress King Size

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress King Size

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models seem right, you can always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress King Size

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and find great support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress King Size

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
