Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Instructions
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Instructions

Construction Helix Mattress Instructions
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Instructions
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options seem quite right, you may always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Instructions
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Instructions
Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
