Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Inside
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Inside

Construction Helix Mattress Inside
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Inside
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these options seem quite right, you could always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Inside
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re going to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Inside
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
