Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress In Stores

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress In Stores

Construction Helix Mattress In Stores

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress In Stores

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models seem right, you may always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress In Stores

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress In Stores

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
