Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Hot

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Hot

Construction Helix Mattress Hot

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Hot

Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options seem quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Hot

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Hot

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
