Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Honest Review

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Mattress Honest Review

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Honest Review

Construction Helix Mattress Honest Review

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Honest Review

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options seem right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Honest Review

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Honest Review

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.

The attributes of the Helix were thoughtfully constructed to deliver choices whether you were looking for a mattress that keeps cool all night, if you needed one to cradle your curves with a thick comfort system, or both! The pocketed coil unit should provide good edge support and motion transfer is minimal with their individually-wrapped construction.
