Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Frame
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Frame

Construction Helix Mattress Frame
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Frame
Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options sound quite right, you could always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Frame
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Frame
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
