Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Foundation
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Foundation

Construction Helix Mattress Foundation
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Foundation
Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these models sound quite right, you may always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Foundation
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combination will interest a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Foundation
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
