Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress For Side Sleepers

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Mattress For Side Sleepers

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress For Side Sleepers

Construction Helix Mattress For Side Sleepers

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress For Side Sleepers

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models sound right, you may always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress For Side Sleepers

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress For Side Sleepers

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.

Final Thoughts Helix Mattress For Side Sleepers

If you’re shopping for a mattress and aren’t quite sure what feel that you require, Helix’s Color Match system and quiz might be the secret to finding your best sleep with little hassle. Their amazing system, which relies on expert opinions and artificial intelligence, was designed to better their customer’s sleep by giving a better match. Helix Mattress For Side Sleepers

The features of this mattress were thoughtfully manufactured to provide options whether you were searching for a mattress that stays cool all night, in the event that you wanted one to cradle your shape with a thick comfort system, or both! The pocketed coil unit should provide great edge support and movement transfer is minimal with their individually-wrapped build.
