Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Dimensions

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Dimensions

Construction Helix Mattress Dimensions

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Dimensions

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options feel right, you could always have a look at the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Dimensions

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Dimensions

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
