Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Customer Support

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective variant gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Customer Support

Construction Helix Mattress Customer Support

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Customer Support

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you may always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Customer Support

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and find great support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Customer Support

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1” or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
