Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Coils
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Coils

Construction Helix Mattress Coils
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Coils
Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Coils
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Coils
Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
