Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Cal King
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Cal King

Construction Helix Mattress Cal King
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Cal King
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options sound right, you could always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Cal King
Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1” or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
