Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Box Spring
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Box Spring

Construction Helix Mattress Box Spring
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Box Spring
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options seem quite right, you may always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Box Spring
Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
