Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Base
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Base

Construction Helix Mattress Base
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Base
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you could always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Base
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Base
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
