Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Adjustable Base
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Adjustable Base

Construction Helix Mattress Adjustable Base
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Adjustable Base
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options sound right, you may always check out the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While getting a new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Adjustable Base
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
