Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress 100 Day Trial

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress 100 Day Trial

Construction Helix Mattress 100 Day Trial

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress 100 Day Trial

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models seem quite right, you can always check out the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress 100 Day Trial

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress 100 Day Trial

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
