Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Luxury
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Luxury

Construction Helix Luxury
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Luxury
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these models sound quite right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Luxury
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Luxury
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1” or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
