Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Luxury Hybrid Mattress Vs Saatva

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Luxury Hybrid Mattress Vs Saatva

Construction Helix Luxury Hybrid Mattress Vs Saatva

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Luxury Hybrid Mattress Vs Saatva

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models sound quite right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Luxury Hybrid Mattress Vs Saatva

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Luxury Hybrid Mattress Vs Saatva

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
