Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Lower Back Pain
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Lower Back Pain

Construction Helix Lower Back Pain
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Lower Back Pain
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options seem right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While getting a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Lower Back Pain
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
