Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Llc Julia Swanson
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Llc Julia Swanson

Construction Helix Llc Julia Swanson
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Llc Julia Swanson
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options feel right, you can always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Llc Julia Swanson
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
