Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Layers
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Layers

Construction Helix Layers
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different versions (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Layers
Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you may always check out the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Layers
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Layers
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
