Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Independent Review
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Independent Review

Construction Helix Independent Review
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Independent Review
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models sound quite right, you could always check out the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Independent Review
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and find great support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Independent Review
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
