Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix In Store
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix In Store

Construction Helix In Store
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix In Store
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models sound right, you may always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While getting a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix In Store
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
