Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Hutchinson
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Hutchinson

Construction Helix Hutchinson
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Hutchinson
Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you may always check out the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Hutchinson
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Hutchinson
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
