Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Honest Review
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Honest Review

Construction Helix Honest Review
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Honest Review
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models seem right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Honest Review
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Honest Review
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
