Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Gadgets
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Gadgets

Construction Helix Gadgets
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Gadgets
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options sound right, you can always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Gadgets
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Gadgets
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
