Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Founder
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Founder

Construction Helix Founder
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Founder
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you can always have a look at the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Founder
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Founder
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
