Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Foundation
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Foundation

Construction Helix Foundation
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct versions (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Foundation
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those options seem right, you could always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Foundation
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Foundation
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
