Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Foundation Dimensions

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Foundation Dimensions

Construction Helix Foundation Dimensions

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Foundation Dimensions

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options feel quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Foundation Dimensions

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a brand-new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Foundation Dimensions

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
