Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Foundation Assembly
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Foundation Assembly

Construction Helix Foundation Assembly
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Foundation Assembly
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models seem right, you may always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Foundation Assembly
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you are likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Foundation Assembly
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
