Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Forest
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Forest

Construction Helix Forest
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Forest
Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel right, you can always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Forest
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Forest
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
