Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix For Side Sleepers
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix For Side Sleepers

Construction Helix For Side Sleepers
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix For Side Sleepers
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models sound quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix For Side Sleepers
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix For Side Sleepers
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
