Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Facebook
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Facebook

Construction Helix Facebook
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Facebook
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Facebook
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you’re going to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Facebook
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
