Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Dusk Mattress Review
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Dusk Mattress Review

Construction Helix Dusk Mattress Review
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Dusk Mattress Review
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these models feel right, you could always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Dusk Mattress Review
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Dusk Mattress Review
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
