Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Directions
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Directions

Construction Helix Directions
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Directions
Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options sound right, you can always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Directions
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Directions
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
