Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Delivery Time

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Delivery Time

Construction Helix Delivery Time

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Delivery Time

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these models seem right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Delivery Time

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Delivery Time

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
