Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Delivery Issues

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual model provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Delivery Issues

Construction Helix Delivery Issues

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Delivery Issues

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those options seem quite right, you can always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Delivery Issues

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are going to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Delivery Issues

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
