Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Dawn Mattress Review

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Dawn Mattress Review

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Dawn Mattress Review

Construction Helix Dawn Mattress Review

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Dawn Mattress Review

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these options seem quite right, you may always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Dawn Mattress Review

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Dawn Mattress Review

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
