Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Customer Service

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Customer Service

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Customer Service

Construction Helix Customer Service

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Customer Service

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models seem quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Customer Service

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Customer Service

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
