Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Chris Lee
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Chris Lee

Construction Helix Chris Lee
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Chris Lee
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options seem quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Chris Lee
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Chris Lee
Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1” or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
