Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Chicago
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Chicago

Construction Helix Chicago
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different versions (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Chicago
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these options sound right, you could always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Chicago
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you are going to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Chicago
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
