Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix California King
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix California King

Construction Helix California King
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix California King
Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these models sound quite right, you can always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix California King
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
