Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed Mattress
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Bed Mattress

Construction Helix Bed Mattress
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Bed Mattress
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options seem right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed Mattress
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Bed Mattress
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
