Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed King
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Bed King

Construction Helix Bed King
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Bed King
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you may always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Bed King
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
