Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed In Box
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Bed In Box

Construction Helix Bed In Box
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Bed In Box
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed In Box
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While getting a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Bed In Box
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
