Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed In A Box
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Bed In A Box

Construction Helix Bed In A Box
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Bed In A Box
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options feel right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed In A Box
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Bed In A Box
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
