Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed Firmness
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Bed Firmness

Construction Helix Bed Firmness
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Bed Firmness
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options seem quite right, you can always check out the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed Firmness
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Bed Firmness
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
