Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed Faq

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Bed Faq

Construction Helix Bed Faq

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Bed Faq

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models sound right, you can always check out the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed Faq

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Bed Faq

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
